Adaptation Plan for Vayots Dzor in the Framework of Climate Change

Adaptation Plan for Vayots Dzor in the Framework of Climate Change

The objective of this project was to develop a comprehensive adaptation policy framework and action plan for the Vayots Dzor region in Armenia, which served as a pilot region for climate change adaptation efforts. The plan was based on a thorough vulnerability assessment of various sectors, considering both current climate challenges and future climate change scenarios. The assignment aimed to align with Armenia's broader climate strategy, particularly focusing on the adaptation measures outlined in Armenia’s Third National Communication (TNC) to the UNFCCC. The goal was to enhance the region's capacity to effectively address the adverse impacts of climate change, in line with the country’s development priorities.

As part of this effort, our team prepared an adaptation action plan tailored specifically for the Vayots Dzor region. This plan involved detailed evaluations of the vulnerabilities of key sectors and ecosystems, including agriculture, water resources, and infrastructure, and considered the region’s existing development plans and social challenges. We designed strategies to increase the resilience of local communities and ecosystems, ensuring they could adapt to shifting climate patterns. The final adaptation plan aimed to provide a roadmap for similar initiatives in other regions of Armenia, offering strategic guidance for long-term climate adaptation efforts.
