The Advancing Organic-origin Fertilizer Use in Armenia

The Advancing Organic-origin Fertilizer Use in Armenia

On November 15th, a significant workshop titled "Promoting the Production and Consumption of Organic Fertilizers in Armenia" was held, marking a notable step forward in Armenia's agricultural sustainability. The workshop presented the goals and findings of in-depth studies and analyses on organic-origin fertilizer use in Armenia executed by Avenue Consulting Group and AM Partners. A critical part of the study was the cost-benefit analysis that was done to compare the economic implications of organic versus conventional fertilizers, highlighting the broader economic benefits of organic options. The study’s findings led to recommendations on legal, economic, and fiscal mechanisms for sustainable organic-origin fertilizer production.

The workshop served as a platform for stakeholders from various sectors, including government representatives, industry experts, farmers, and fertilizer importers, to converge, discuss, and strategize on the future of organic fertilizer production and usage in Armenia. During the workshop project team presented and validated recommendations to craft a comprehensive policy note encompassing all pertinent suggestions for the Ministry of Economy.

The project carried out by the delegation of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) was part of the BMZ-funded "Management of Natural Resources and Safeguarding of Ecosystem Services for the Sustainable Rural Development in the South Caucasus" (ECOserve).

We commend all participants and supporters for their contributions and look forward to witnessing the positive impacts of these efforts on Armenia's agricultural sector.
