A recent study by Avenue Consulting Group on "Opportunities for Growth in Meat Production and Exports in Armenia" indicates that Armenia’s meat products will become more competitive in the Russian market following the country’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
The study projects that Armenian meat producers could increase export volumes from 496 tons in 2015 to 3,000 tons by 2017, potentially adding $12-13 million in exports. The report highlights that EAEU membership grants Armenian producers competitive advantages, such as exemption from customs duties and the ability to offer lower prices in Russia due to favorable tariff rates.
To help coordinate exports to the Russian market and represent the interests of the meat industry, the Union of Armenian Meat Producers has been established. However, the study also cautions against over-reliance on the Russian market, advising Armenian producers to diversify export directions to reduce risks related to market dependency and fluctuating conditions.
