Avenue Consulting Group Advises on Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan of Vayots Dzor Region
On 27th August 2014, UNDP Armenia organized a presentation and round table discussion of Climate change adaptation plan elaborated by Avenue Consulting Group LLC in partnership with Apricot Plus LLC. The objective of the discussion was to present to the Marz representatives the results of climate change vulnerability assessment, explain what adaptation measures should be set up and present some pilot projects lanced according to the adaptation program. The participants of the discussion were the representatives of Marzpetaran, of Nature Protection Ministry of RA, of local villages and businesses.
Vice Marz Governor welcomed the participants of the discussion. Mrs. Diana Harutyunyan, the UNDP Climate Change Program Coordinator, briefly explained the objectives and results of the report on Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Program for Vayots Dzor Marz. After that, Dr. Karen Martirosyan, Head of SMAS in Avenue Consulting Group LLC, presented the report highlighting the main points and conclusions. Particularly, he pointed out the results of vulnerability assessment for sectors of agriculture, water resources, ecosystems and biodiversity, infrastructures and tourism. Moreover, Dr. Karen Martirosyan presented recommended adaptation measures for each sector underlining the role of the Marz governor office, local businesses and farmers in the realization of adaptation program.
Finally, Mr. Vardan Melikyan, UNDP expert, pointed certain pilot projects set up according to adaptation program. The participants came up with their comments and their vision of adaptation measures, which are going to be incorporated in report.
